Rory Burke, a Midshipman and student at North Carolina State University, runs toward the finish line of the 3-mile running portion of the Cherry Point Sprint Triathlon aboard the air station, Aug. 25. Burke, who is on the triathlon team at N.C. State, came out for the race from Raleigh, N.C. Originally from the Cherry Point area, Burke said he worked at the pool the race started at for three years. A record turnout of more than 200 participants competed in categories split up by age. The racers wore tracking anklets that precisely traced them as they swam, biked and ran through the approximately 13 mile course. The annual triathlon is part of multiple races in the Eastern North Carolina that form the 2012 Semper Fit Grand Prix Series, hosted by Marine Corps Community Services.
