A large gray military naval vessel, consistent with a US Navy amphibious transport dock (LPD-class ship), is underway on open blue ocean under partly cloudy skies. The ship is moving at speed, leaving a distinct white wake trail extending to the right of the frame. The aerial perspective provides a clear view of the vessel's superstructure, flight deck, and hull.

USS New Orleans (LPD 18) steams away from formation in support of a Valiant Shield 2020 photo exercise. Valiant Shield is a U.S. only, biennial field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training in a blue-water environment among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.
