U.S. Marine Cpl. Jainyah Barca with Air Combat Element, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, takes part in training at Nackeroo Airfield, Bradshaw Field Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia, Aug. 8, 2020. Barca is a native of Orlando.
“I’m from Kherson, Ukraine. There’s a bazaar, and a flea market, not a lot. I grew up speaking Russian. A lot of people in Ukraine grow up speaking Russian. Don’t worry, I’m not a spy. It was just me and my brother. I was 15 when we were adopted. We didn’t bring anything with us when we moved to the United States. The military caught my eye because they pay for college. Originally I wanted to go Air Force, but when I walked into the USMC recruiting office they were celebrating the Marine Corps' birthday. They were having a good time, they cut the cake and everything. I thought ‘I could do this.’”
During the extended training, MRF-D’s ACE made history by launching an RQ-21A Blackjack into flight, from Australian soil, for the first time ever. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Harrison Rakhshani)
