Richard Cote, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron deputy commander, holds a picture of his granddaughter, Jaiden, June 24, 2020, at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif. When Cote got stressed from work, he would look at his granddaughter’s pictures in his office, and they put things in perspective, making him smile. Vandenberg AFB was Cote’s only base, and he retired on June 25, 2020, after nearly 40 years of service. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Brittany E. N. Murphy)
