Members of the Coast Guard a part of the Coast Guard cutterman community stand with John Kendall, grandnephew of Alexander Saldarini, acting quartermaster aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa during World War I, after a holding a Purple Heart Medal award presentation ceremony Sept. 26, 2019 held at Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet in honor of his granduncle. Saldarini was one of 130 military members who lost their lives on Sept. 26, 1918 when a German U-boat sank the Coast Guard Cutter Tampa in the Bristol Channel during World War I.
