A crew member from the Oregon Army National Guard's Aviation unit assess a landing site from aboard a CH 47 Chinook helicopter prior to landing at Alton Baker Park in Eugene, Ore., May 3. The aircraft took part in a mass casualty scenario during the Vigilant Guard Exercise. The exercise is designed to test the interoperability of local and state first responders and the National Guard, and has been coordinated with U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Planners hope the event will enhance multi-agency cooperation and response in disaster situations.
