Oregon Army National Guard Lt. Mark Timmons, Liaison Officer for the Vigilant Guard Exercise briefs Dr. Jonathon Jiu and Oregon Air National Guard Col. Bob Gentry on exercise operations at the Eugene Airport, in Eugene, Ore., May 3. Jiu is a professor at Oregon Health and Science University, and Gentry is the State Air Surgeon, Oregon. The exercise is designed to test the interoperability of local and state first responders and the National Guard, and has been coordinated with U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Planners hope the event will enhance multi-agency cooperation and response in disaster situations.
