SAN DIEGO (July 29, 2019) Machinery Repairman 2nd Class Sam Leonard uses a portable carbon dioxide (CO2) bottle to combat a small alpha fire that was caused while cutting into a high security filing cabinet lock aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). The ship’s engineering department worked to ensure all confidential and classified information was vacant prior to the disposal of the filing unit. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting depot-level maintenance availability. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Colby A. Mothershead)
