Spc. Shamika Wright, a culinary arts specialist with 1st Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, and Fayetteville, North Carolina, native, is a member of the culinary arts team chosen to participate in Joint Culinary Training Exercise. She joined the military to follow her dad’s footsteps, but her passion has always been to cook. Her ultimate goal is to open up a bakery; her first duty station was Korea, which has “many little coffee shops with tarts and lots of other pastries.” Her drive to stay a military culinary specialist is based off her idea that “food makes people happy.” She enjoys making people happy, especially Soldiers who had long days in the field. “Food is universal and seeing a smile on a Soldiers face is priceless.” She is extremely excited because of her selection to join the team and cannot wait for the competition. She looks forward to meeting people in the branch from all over the department of defense and other countries.
