Pvt. Austin Walts, an Indiana, native, with 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, joined the Fort Bliss culinary arts team- right out of advanced individual training- to participate in the Joint Culinary Training Exercise in early March. He joined the military as a culinary arts specialist because “everyday he gets to create something new.” Being that he is new, he “relies on the team- so much- to teach him all of the techniques.” He appreciates them for making him “feel comfortable to ask for help because they are willing to stop what they are doing to explain the right way to do things.” He has a lot of passion for the job, and wants to progress for the team and himself.
