OSAN, Republic of Korea - Lee Jae-myung, governor of Gyeonggi Province, addresses attendees of the 68th Task Force Smith Memorial Ceremony, July 6. Each year, the city of Osan commemorates the U.S. Soldiers who came to the defense of South Korea, and more specifically, Osan, to block and delay the North’s advance as reinforcements were assembled. Inexperienced, understrength and ill-equipped, TF Smith sustained 60 killed, 21 wounded, and 82 captured, during its battle against North Korean forces. Nonetheless, TF Smith delayed the North’s advance and reinforcements were eventually able to repel the invasion. (Photo by Staff Sgt. Todd Pouliot, 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade)
