An aerial photograph showing a border fence or security barrier made of vertical steel bollards, curving through a densely vegetated landscape. The fence is interrupted by a gate or opening where a dirt road passes through, creating a controlled access point. The surrounding terrain consists of dense scrub brush and trees, with unpaved patrol roads running alongside the barrier.

DHS’s FY 2017 Enacted Appropriations provided funding to construction 35 gates in gaps in the existing 55 miles of levee and border wall to create greater persistent impedance and denial capability in the area of greatest operational priority.
