The Missouri National Guard assisted Atchison County authorities with personnel and a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter to repair levee L550 near Phelps City as the fight against the flood continues. The Black Hawk was used to move over 145 sandbags weighing two thousand pounds each onto areas of the levee damaged by overtopping in recent days. The levee is being repaired with the expectation that it will prevent a full breach which would cause more severe flooding and would close state highway 136 located nearby. In this photo, Spc. Shane Anderson, HHB, 1/129th Field Artillery, and Sgt. Arron Keesler, C Company, 1/106th Avn. Rgmt., watch the approach of the helicopter as Sgt. Joshua Graham, A Battery, 1/129th Field Artillery prepares the rope sling that will be hooked to the helicopter to carry the sandbags out to the levee.
