The Missouri National Guard assisted Atchison County authorities with personnel and a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter to repair levee L550 near Phelps City as the fight against the flood continues. The Black Hawk was used to move over 145 sandbags weighing two thousand pounds each onto areas of the levee damaged by overtopping in recent days. The levee is being repaired with the expectation that it will prevent a full breach which would cause more severe flooding and would close state highway 136 located nearby. In this photo, a bobcat positions two more sandbags on the highway as the helicopter, far right, flys out to the levee to place more sandbags in position.
