Lt. Col. Eric W. Sharyer, commander of the 185th Military Police Battalion, 49th Military Police Brigade, California Army National Guard, presents a gift to Aleana Carreon, executive director of the Sonoma Developmental Center, Oct. 25, just before Cal Guardsmen completed a week-long effort to help recover the facility from the Northern California wildfires. The gift was made by Soldiers, Sharyer explained. “We couldn’t have done this without the help of the Guard. They have been very helpful since Day 1,” Carreron said. “They have been so polite and so generous to our staff and to the residents. They’ve been amazing since the day they got here.” The center takes care of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities but had to evacuate residents as wildfires came within a few hundred meters. After reopening, Guardsmen came in and cleaned up portions of the facility and moved various parts and pieces, helping the center recover. (Army National Guard photo by Staff Sgt Eddie Siguenza)
