170915-N-FR671-0062 SAN DIEGO (Sept. 15, 2017) -- Sally Monsoor sheds tears upon hearing the news of her son, Medal of Honor recipient Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor, becoming an honorary chief petty officer. Michael A. Monsoor died in combat in 2006 and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor. The second ship of the Zumwalt class of guided missile destroyers, USS Michael Monsoor, was named in his honor and will serve as a multi-mission platform capable of operating as an integral part of naval, joint or combined maritime forces.
