A U.S. Army change of command ceremony is taking place indoors, likely at an armory or military facility. Two soldiers in OCP (Operational Camouflage Pattern) uniforms are exchanging a unit guidon (pennant flag), which is the central ritual of a change of command ceremony. Additional soldiers and color guards with flags are visible in the background.

U.S. Army Reserve Col. Bradley Nindl assumed command of the Southeast Medical Area Readiness Support Group from Col. Scott Lynn, the outgoing commander, during a Change of Command Ceremony presided over by Army Reserve Medical Command commanding general, Maj. Gen. Mary Link, held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Nashville, Tennessee. The Change of Command ceremony symbolizes the continuation of leadership and unit identity despite the change of individual authority. It also represents the transfer of power from one leader to another; passing the ceremonial flag from outgoing to incoming commander is a physical representation of that transfer.
