A crescendo of voices rose above the 101st Airborne Division Band as they played the Army Song to close out the Southeast Medical Area Readiness Support Group change of command ceremony held on Saturday, August 26th, 2017, at the Command Sergeant Major Huff U.S. Army Reserve Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
Maj. Gen. Mary Link, commanding general for Army Reserve Medical Command, presided over the ceremony held to honor outgoing commander, Col. Scott Lynn, and incoming commander, Col. Bradley Nindl, while recognizing the important role SE-MARSG plays for the total force.
“Southeast MARSG is an operational echelon of ARMEDCOM’s support to the U.S. Army and its participation in local, state and regional missions ensures world class health service support across the full range of military operations. As such, Southeast MARSG is vitally important not only to the Army Reserve, but to the Total Army and the Joint Force as well,” said Link.
The change of command is a traditional event rich with symbolism and heritage. The key to the ceremony is the passing of colors which not only represents the lineage and honor of the unit, but also the loyalty and unity of its Soldiers. The unit’s colors are the commander’s symbol of authority representing his responsibility to the organization.
Following the passing of colors, Link recognized the contributions of the outgoing commander during his tenure with the command. “Colonel Lynn’s exceptional vision and leadership abilities took an already successful organization, and propelled it into another level of uncompromising support, meeting the needs of America’s Army Reserve and the total force, by ensuring his warfighters were trained, equipped, medically proficient and ready for any task presented to them,” Link said.
Link thanked Col. Lynn for his service, congratulated him on his pending promotion to brigadier general and selection to serve in his follow-on assignment as deputy commanding general for 807th Medical Command (Deployment Support) headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, before welcoming Col. Nindl as the new commander for Southeast MARSG.
“A consummate medical professional who has commanded at every level prior to serving as the executive officer for the 256th Combat Support Hospital, Colonel Nindl’s dedication to duty and commitment to excellence is reflected in everything he does,” said Link, confirming that those serving in Southeast MARSG have been, and will continue to be in very good hands.
Nindl then approached the podium to address his Soldiers as their new commander, sharing his cup-half-full perspective.
“It will be my charge to create a culture where every Soldier in our formation will have an opportunity to excel in order to become more capable and more combat ready in support of the U.S. Army and the American people,” said Nindl before recognizing his family in attendance for their love and support over the years, concluding the ceremony.
