SHOALWATER BAY TRAINING AREA, QUEENSLAND, Australia, (July 15, 2017) – Marines assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Force’s Forward Command Element advance across the flight deck of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) to board an MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft for insertion ashore in support of Talisman Saber 17, July 15, 2017. True to its name, the FCE often inserts in advance of the rest of the force. “We’re going to set up a forward command post so, when the MEU is geographically separated, we have the ability to execute command and control,” said Lt. Col. Michael R. Hyde, 31st MEU Executive Officer. Talisman Saber is a biennial exercise designed to improve the interoperability between Australian and U.S. forces.
