SHOALWATER BAY TRAINING AREA, QUEENSLAND, Australia, (July 15, 2017) – Lt. Col. Michael R. Hyde, Executive Officer of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Force, preps his gear aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) for insertion ashore as the senior officer of the 31st MEU’s Forward Command Element, operating in support of Talisman Saber 17, July 15, 2017. True to its name, the FCE often inserts in advance of the rest of the force. “We’re going to set up a forward command post so, when the MEU is geographically separated, we have the ability to execute command and control,” said Lt. Col. Michael R. Hyde, 31st MEU Executive Officer. Talisman Saber is a biennial exercise designed to improve the interoperability between Australian and U.S. forces.
