170322-N-FT178-014 U.S. 7TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (March 22, 2017) Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108) transit the 7th Fleet Area of Operations during a maritime interdiction operations bilateral exercise. Carl Vinson and Wayne E. Meyer are on a regularly scheduled Western Pacific deployment with the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group as part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet-led initiative to extend the command and control functions of the U.S. 3rd Fleet in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
