    MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Dec. 8, 2016) - Seaman Amy P. Peterson places a red rose on a table during a memorial celebration in honor of the ship’s namesake, Marine Col. Donald Cook aboard USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), Dec. 8, 2016 on the anniversary of his death. Cook, a prisoner of war during the Vietnam war was an inspiration for his fellow prisoners to endure and survive, his dedication to his country and his fellow prisoners resulted in his posthumous awarding of the Medal of Honor. USS Donald Cook, an Arleigh-Burke class guided-missile destroyer, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting naval operations in the U.S. 6th Fleet area of operations in support of U.S. national security interests in Europe and Africa.
