Recruits from Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, perform a deep water gear shed during the Water Survival Intermediate Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 10. Recruits jump into the water with a rifle, flak jacket and Kevlar helmet and remove it underwater within 10 seconds. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate October 7.
