A recruit from Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, jumps from a ten- foot platform into the pool during the Water Survival Intermediate Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 10. Although the majority of boot camp is focused on land-based training, combat water survival training is critical to learn for an amphibious force. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate October 7.
