Recruits from Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, perform a 50 meter pack travel during the Water Survival Intermediate Qualification at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 10. After the 50 meter pack travel, recruits perform a deep water gear shed where they jump into the water with a rifle, flak jacket and Kevlar helmet and remove it underwater within 10 seconds. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Lima Company is scheduled to graduate Oct. 7.
