Ichiro Umehara gives a lecture on American and Japanese communication differences during an English class Nov. 5 at the Aeon Rycom Mall in Chatan, Okinawa, Japan. The class provided Status of Forces Agreement personnel and Okinawa residents to interact and improve their English through conversation with native English speakers. During the class, SOFA members divided into groups with the students, played word games and discussed American and Japanese vernacular. Umehara is a community relations specialist for Camp Courtney. Marine Corps Installations Pacific strengthens relationships with our allies and partners in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region; enables the strategic launch and recovery of military capabilities to save lives and to preserve regional peace, stability and security; and enables operating force readiness to guarantee victory.
