During a Nov. 19, 2015, walking tour of Camp Zama, Japan, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) Reserve Component candidates from the JGSDF's 117th Training Battalion walk through an air raid shelter constructed in the 1930s and designed specifically to protect Japan's emperor from bombs and shrapnel. U.S. Army Japan and the JGSDF units headquartered in Camp Zama work together to preserve the air raid shelter and other landmarks that distinguish the post's proud past.
