Streamers are released into the air to signal the start of the tug-of-war during the Naha Giant Tug-O-War Festival Oct. 11 in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The participants split into two teams representing the East and West, and pulled the 200-meter long, 43 ton rope. The teams represented the Battle of the East and West Dynasties as they struggled for power. After 30 minutes and pulling the rope 3.5 meters, the East team emerged victorious.
