GENERAL CAPTION: Faced with population explosion which threatens to wipe out economic gains, the Indian Government has high priority to a massive family planning program. It aims at reducing the birth rate from 41 per thousand to 24 per thousand within a decade. The U.S. Agency for International Development (A.I.D.) is providing financial and technical assistance to the burgeoning program. In fiscal 1969, for instance A.I.D. plans to expand its family planning dollar assistance to $7.4 million in rupees earned through the sale of U.S. food in India.
