Students at the Polit Spinning Plant of the Textile Institute at Bandung train on one of the machines provided by the United States International Cooperation Administration (ICA) Mission to Indonesia. The Indonesian government through the Ministry of Industry financed the buldings for the plant and the ICA purchased over $100,000 worth of the machinery to equip the plant from the Whitin Machine Works of Massachusetts - A world famous maker of textile equipment. In addition, ICA financed the cost of a technician, Mr. Albert Charbonneau, who supervised the installation of the machinery and the preliminary training of the personnel. During the first year of it's operation, 58 students have completed the first part of a 2 1/2 year course and Indonesian cotton has been soun into yarn for the first time.
