U.S. Marine Lt. Gen. John E. Wissler, Joint Task Force 505 commander, provides an update of the U.S. military relief operations in Kathmandu, Nepal, to international donors. “We are currently on the ground with four MV-22 Ospreys,” said Wissler. “A very interesting aircraft that can land as a helicopter but in full flight flies like an airplane. A very capable platform particularly in the large reach of the area we are covering here.” JTF-505 is responsible for providing relief to five districts in Nepal. U.S. military members along with the U.S. Agency for International Development and search and rescue teams from the Los Angeles County Fire Department and Fairfax County, Virginia, came to the aid of Nepal after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck April 25.
