Japan Self-Defense Force Maj. Yasuhiro Otsubo examines the cockpit of an MV-22B Osprey Feb. 12 at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan. Otsubo is a member of the Japan Observer Exchange Program, which gives Marines and sailors with the III Marine Expeditionary Force and members of the JSDF the opportunity to observe the training of their counterparts in order to increase mutual understanding and interoperability. The Osprey is capable of external lift operations, in-air refueling, and alternate insertion operations. Primary missions of the Osprey are assault support, humanitarian assistance, non-combatant evacuation operations and casualty evacuation. The aircraft is with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III MEF. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
