U. S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Melissa De La Torre spends time with an orphan at the Djibouti City orphanage; where she assists French Nuns in feeding the more than 60 babies and toddlers cared for at the facility on March 27. Staff Sgt. De La Torre of Austin, Texas is assigned to Combined Joint Task Force - HOA J6 and is among many servicemembers from Camp Lemonier, Djibouti, who donate their time visiting the facility to help feed the children and play with them. The service members of CJTF-HOA, headquartered in Djibouti, employ an indirect approach to counter violent extremism. Through a strategy of cooperative conflict prevention the task force helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk to prevail against extremists exploiting instability.
