Electronics Technician 3rd Class Joel Reed from the USS Cape St. George (CG 71) pilots a robot during a high school robotics competition held at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. The robot, built by Yoshio Yoshizumi of Waialua High School, was one of several entries in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) Exercise 2014 Robotics Competition, sponsored by the U.S. Pacific Fleet and the Office of Naval Research. While showing off their entries, students had a chance to meet RIMPAC participants and build proficiency in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills. Twenty-two nations, more than 40 ships and six submarines, more than 200 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity that helps participants foster and sustain the cooperative relationships that are critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.
