From left to right: Ramon Fiel G. Abcede, U.S. Marine Maj. Gen. Richard Simcock, and Ann Y. Ongjoco cut a ribbon to commemorate the completion of renovations and comfort room construction at Dona Mercedes Elementary School May 14 during a dedication ceremony in Guinobatan, Albay province, Philippines. Dedication ceremonies were held around Albay to recognize the completion of the five engineering civic assistance program sites taking place as a part of Exercise Balikatan, including renovations of a school, building of classrooms, and construction of a health center. The exercise is currently in its 30th iteration and focuses on strengthening interoperability and friendship between the two long-standing allies. Abcede is the regional director of Department of Education Region V, Simcock is the deputy commander for U.S. Marine Forces, Pacific, Ongjoco is the municipal mayor of Guinobatan and Nelson is the commanding general of 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
