Two military personnel in camouflage uniforms and red life vests are operating a black inflatable rubber boat in a marina. They appear to be conducting an oil spill containment operation, deploying yellow boom barriers and white absorbent boom material around a docked vessel. The water surface shows a visible sheen consistent with a fuel or oil spill.

Soldiers of the 824th Transportation Company (Heavy Watercraft) quickly responded to an explosion of a 28-foot fishing boat that occurred at the civilian side of the North Carolina State Port in Morehead City on April 3. They assisted in first aid and damage control until civilian authorities arrived. Here a spillage response boom is secured to prevent further contamination of the water by fuel and other possible hazardous material. The explosion occurred just prior to a ribbon cutting ceremony that was to celebrate the rebuilding of their pier that had been destroyed during Hurricane Irene. Pictured here are Staff Sgt. Bryan Hanlon, left, and Warrant Officer Candidate Robert Wallace.
