Vice Adm. Mel Williams Jr., commander of U.S. 2nd Fleet, looks on as former USS Growler (SSG 577) Commanding Officer Robert Owens (1963) cuts the ribbon, officially reopening the submarine the public at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum during Fleet Week New York City 2009. Approximately 3,000 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate in the 22nd commemoration of Fleet Week New York City 2009. This event will provide the citizens of New York City and the surrounding tri-state area an opportunity to meet service members and also the latest capabilities of today's maritime services.
