Members of military forces representing the United States, Egypt and the Netherlands look on as Mark Gachassin (seated), crew chief, Advanced Composite Manufacturing, launches a remote-controlled MiG-23 Bandit during Exercise Bright Star in the Western Egyptian Desert. The Lafayette, La., native launched five of the lightweight fiberglass target drones during the coalition training event, providing a realistic target for low-altitude air defense gunners with Marine Air Control Group 38 Detachment, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) to shoot down during a Stinger missile shoot. The training evolution allowed coalition forces from the host nation and the Netherlands to observe the equipment and procedures used by U.S. Marines to engage low-flying aircraft and met its goal of strengthening the bond between coalition forces, as well as displaying a portion of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable)'s warfighting capability.
