Sgt. 1st Class Christopher Ward greets Iraqi children outside of an Iraqi Police station in the Al Wasit Province on August 24, 2004. As a part of Task Force Tomahawk, three battalions from the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) were sent 500 kilometers away from their normal area of operations, Ninevah Province, to stabilize the Al Wasit area. Al Sadrs militia overran and destroyed several government buildings in the region. The Stryker Brigade Soldiers worked with the Iraqi Police and Iraqi National Guard to secure the area.
