30日、沖縄市と北中城村にまたがるロウワー・プラザ地区内の緑地ひろば開設記念式典を開催した。 この地域は、 日本に返還される予定のフォスター基地旧ロウワープラザ住宅地区の一部で、公共の公園として共同で利用される。沖縄防衛局の担当者は、レクリエーションや親睦の場として多くの人々に利用してほしいと話している。

で行われた「大人のための英会話クラス」表彰/修了式の前に、修了証にサインをするキャンプ・シュワブ司令官のエリック・T・クラーク大佐。 「大人のための英会話クラス」は、キャンプ・シュワブで週1回、夕方に開催された。今年は42人の地域住民が参加し、26人が修了式に出席した。キャンプ・シュワブ渉外官伊波文雄氏によると、このプログラムは周辺地区の人々が英語に慣れ親しみ、最終的には基地内での就職に役立てば
