CAMP HOVEY, Republic of Korea- Soldiers from 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, traded rifles for spatulas in a culinary showdown to crown the official Raider Burger.
Seven Soldiers from across the brigade volunteered to design, cook, and present their best burger creations to a panel of five executive judges. Competitors crafted menus, prepped ingredients, and showcased their skills under pressure, bringing flavors as unique as their units.
After careful deliberation, Spc. Tayvon King, G Company, 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, emerged as the winner with his double-stacked bacon cheeseburger. King’s creation earned the title of Official Raider Burger and will be featured in all 1SBCT dining facilities by Oct. 15, 2025. The burger will also be available on the menu at the Iron Triangle dining venue on Camp Hovey
Two other competitors impressed the judges with standout creations and earned rotational spots at the Iron Triangle. Pfc. Nicholas Turk, F Company, 2nd Battalion, 12th Field Artillery Regiment, presented his “Late Night and Hearts” burger, while Spc. Caitlyn Virts, E Company, 299th Brigade Engineer Battalion, wowed with a waffle bun chicken sandwich twist
The competition highlighted Soldiers’ creativity, teamwork, and culinary talent beyond the field, proving that Raider innovation extends from the fight to the kitchen.
