Representatives from various installation programs convened at Fort Stewart's Club Stewart Dec. 6 for the annual Strategic Planning Workshop. This crucial event revisits programs and services, ensuring they align with Fort Stewart-Hunter Airfield's mission and the Army's evolving needs.

“The strategic plan for Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield was first developed in 1994,” said Randy Dutkiewicz, Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Plans, Analysis, and Integration lead management analyst. “Environmental conditions are always changing so it is important for us to take time each year to re-evaluate and adjust the plan in regards to IMCOM (U.S. Army Installation Management Command) headquarters guidance, and various levels of command priorities. This re-evaluation allows us to align, nest or support those initiatives in an effort to provide the most effective services for our Soldiers and their families.”

Recognizing the vital role surrounding communities off-post play, the workshop also features an Executive Planning Session. Here, installation and community leaders brainstorm resource sharing and partnerships, further fostering mutual prosperity both on and off Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.

Over the decades the workshop has become a model for other U.S. Army Garrisons, showcasing the power of pooled resources for top-notch services. This year's event brought together representatives from every garrison directorate and key tenant organizations.

The strategic plan revolves around three key lines of effort: People, Readiness, and Modernization. These LOEs align with the Army's vision of modern, resilient installations, aiming to enhance readiness and support Soldiers, families, civilians, and veterans throughout their lives.

“The generation of Soldiers and families that are just now coming into the Army were in middle school when these policies were first written,” said Col. Marc Austin, Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander. “It’s important for us to come together to identify the gaps in today’s policies, programs, and service delivery so we can better align with the needs of our current Soldier’s and families.”

The workshop featured breakout sessions for each LOE, led by subject matter experts. Teams developed frameworks for their LOEs, which will be presented to the Garrison Command Team for approval and further planning. Each team will refine their proposals and submit their FY24 integrated priority list by late February.

"Events like this are crucial," Austin emphasized. "They help us identify gaps and adapt policies to better serve our current generation of Soldiers and families. This annual workshop isn't just a meeting; it's a commitment to continuous improvement, ensuring Fort Stewart-Hunter Airfield remains a vibrant and thriving community for generations to come.”
