Water is flushed from a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers juvenile fish transport truck during a cleaning cycle, Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026. Strict sanitation protocols are essential to prevent disease and ensure the transported juvenile salmon and steelhead arrive at their destination healthy.
As the tank is filled with the salmon through the top hatch, the port at the rear of the truck is used to regulate the fill of the tank. Too much water can lead to it overfilling and too little creates rocking of the water which could injure the small fish.
