U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Townsend, a military police officer assigned to the 603rd Military Police Company, 109th Military Police Battalion, announces an award during the awards ceremony for the Dark Knight competition held at Ādaži Military Base, Latvia, Sept. 11, 2026. The Dark Knight competition is a multi-day best squad competition that challenges Soldiers through events focused on physical fitness, marksmanship, medical skills, rucking and teamwork, testing their ability to perform as a cohesive team under demanding conditions. V Corps is the U.S. Army's only forward-deployed corps, serving as the senior tactical headquarters for Army forces in Eastern Europe to deter conflict and provide combat-ready forces alongside our NATO Allies.
