Two U.S. Air Force officers are participating in a formal change of command ceremony, jointly holding a unit guidon (flag on a wooden staff). A third uniformed service member stands in the background. The ceremony appears to be taking place inside a hangar or large military facility decorated with the U.S. flag and what appears to be the Alabama state flag.

U.S. Air Force Col. Clayton Thompson (left), 187th Maintenance Group Commander, transfers the 187th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron (AMXS) guidon staff to Capt. Bryon Townsend, during a change of command ceremony at Dannelly Field in Montgomery, Alabama, Sep. 12, 2026. The passing of the guidon is rooted in military tradition and symbolizes the formal transfer of authority to the new commander. Townsend addressed his new squadron by stating that he is proud to be selected to lead the 187th AMXS. "Thank you for trusting me with the responsibility of being your commander. Now let's get to work," Townsend continued. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Airman 1st Class Andre Bordlee)
