A ceremonial gathering of military and naval personnel surrounds an equestrian statue in an urban plaza, with tall buildings visible in the background. An American flag is visible near the statue, and floral wreaths are placed at the base, suggesting a commemorative or memorial event. The scene is backlit by strong sunlight filtering through trees, creating a dramatic silhouette effect on the statue.

U.S. Soldiers from the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and a crowd gather around the America's Response Monument in New York City, Sept. 11, 2026. The 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), as part of Task Force Dagger, deployed shortly after the attacks to combat al Qaeda and the Taliban regime responsible for harboring them.

This monument depicts American Green Berets who rode horseback into combat in Afghanistan in October 2001 – the first time in over fifty years that American troops rode horseback. Douwe Blumberg created the bronze statue to honor the U.S. Army Special Forces, Special Operations Forces, Central Intelligence Agency, and other inter-agency teams who were called to serve following the attacks of September 11, 2001. The monument is subtitled “De Oppresso Liber,” the motto of the U.S. Army Special Forces, which means to “liberate the oppressed.” (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Oscar Reyes)
