Kate Trubac, a Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory research general engineer, oversees an in-situ burn experiment conducted with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. The burns are testing the efficiency of a new system designed to improve oil spill clean up.
Unique facilities at CRREL enable such technologies to be tested in controlled environments, allowing researchers to better understand what will happen in a real-world situation. CRREL is one of only a few facilities in the federal government with the licenses, equipment and personnel to safely perform in-situ burn testing. (David Marquis)
