Lt. Gen. Alexus G. Grynkewich, 9th Air Force (Air Forces Central) commander, left, presides over a change-of-command ceremony in which Col. Robert G. Smoker succeeds Lt. Col. Erin K. Brilla as Task Force 99 commander during a ceremony at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Feb. 23, 2023. Smoker joins the 9 AF (AFCENT) team from State College Air Station in Pennsylvania, most recently the commander of the 193rd Air Intelligence Squadron. Smoker and his team of Airmen who operate out of Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, will continue Task Force 99 efforts, working with vendors and leaders from academia and government agencies, as well as coalition partners, to innovate and experiment with technology in 9 AF (AFCENT)’s 21-country area of responsibility.
