U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. James Brooks, an infantry rifleman, with the 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, assigned to Joint Task Force-Southern Border (JTF-SB) in support of Operation Ardent Vanguard, receives congratulations from his peer during an award ceremony near Campo, California, Aug. 15, 2026. Brooks was presented with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for saving the life of a suspected illegal alien that was suffering from a heat-related illness.
