Looking downstream of old gold mining buildings shows a flatland area that was capped by U.S. EPA in 2006 to protect the nearby community from contaminated soils and tailings, which are fine dust particles created from mining operations. The contaminated area was covered with plastics sheeting and then covered with soil to keep the cap in place and protect it from weathering.
